What Size Should I Buy?

Size

It is important to select the correct sized mask, as it must fit snugly under your chin, and on your forehead. With your mouth closed, measure the distance between the bridge of your nose and the bottom of your chin.

  • Less than 12 cm, choose size S/M
  • More than 12 cm, choose size L/XL
  • Kids: Less than 10 cm, choose size XS KIDS

If your face size measures exactly 12cms, it is possible you can fit L/XL or S/M but this depends on your face shape and nose bridge. We have found in our experience that the majority of users in this category will go with S/M. It is important to get an adequate face seal and even in if the forehead seal sits just above your eyebrows this is fine.

How Does a SnorkelPro Mask Compare with Tribord?

How Does SnorkelPro Sports Compare to Tribord Masks?

Tribord is a French company that was the original designer of the full face snorkel. As snorkelers ourselves, we were on a mission to find something just as good, if not better than Tribord. After weeks of researching and testing, we can now confidently say that we have sourced the best mask possible, at the best price, guaranteed!

We tested both the genuine Tribord masks and our SnorkelPro masks. We tested both extensively in Australia as well as overseas. Our results show that there are some differences in function and quality. While Tribord is an excellent mask, we believe that SnorkelPro masks perform even better because of the reasons below.

These are the main differences:

  • SnorkelPro masks are made of continuous moulding. Around the plastic surround, our masks are a continuous piece whereas Tribord’s mask is 2 pieces. This means that SnorkelPro masks are sturdier and less likely to break. The Tribord masks we’ve tested are already showing signs of separation at the mould joints.
  • SnorkelPro masks are slightly lighter. A large Tribord mask weighs 661 grams, whereas our masks weigh 561 grams. The 100 grams does make a difference for ease of use. It is also better for lightweight travelling.
  • SnorkelPro masks have a better close valve mechanism. The original Tribord masks have a rectangular plug that closes the snorkel when immersed in water. We have found that they have a tendency to stick and are harder to release. These masks have a rolling ball that rolls freely and does not get stuck after immersion.
  • SnorkelPro masks come in many different colours. The colours include, Blue, Pink, Green, White and Black, all with a highly visible snorkel. For discretion, some snorkelers prefer the Black masks that have a black snorkel instead. Tribord masks are blue, pink or green and only come with an orange snorkel.
  • Tribord do not have an Explorer or Vision Max 180 equivalent.

What Makes SnorkelPro Masks Superior?

Buyer Beware

Beware of other eBay sellers who sell inferior masks at prices that are “too good to be true”. Think about how they could possibly cover the cost of shipping, eBay & PayPal fees and a quality mask! Not all masks are made equal. Their quality does not measure up to our masks at SnorkelPro. The material they use is brittle and easily damaged. Some have faulty air valves that obstruct vision. Some have gimmicky earplugs dangling from the sides that are just plain ugly! The straps are cheap nylon (not elastic) so they are uncomfortable and difficult to adjust and fit. Please do not take the risk.

How Do I Take Care of My Mask?

Care Advice

Prior to first use, you may like to wash the mask in fresh water and a little detergent. Do not do this until you are happy with the size and fit of the mask as we will be unable to refund used masks. After each use, wash mask in the same solution, dry it, then store the mask in its mesh bag for airflow. Do not dry with your towel at the beach or it may be scratched by sand.

How Does A Full Face Snorkel Mask Work?

How Does It Work

When the wearer inhales with the one-way snorkel above water, air is drawn in across the viewing chamber, and into the breathing chamber via pair of one-way valves. The introduction of fresh air, and separate chambers prevent the viewing chamber from fogging up. The wearer is able to breath through their nose or mouth just as normal. Exhaling can be performed at any time, and CO2 will escape the mask via single one-way valve located around the mask, and out the top of the snorkel.

To ensure that water does not enter via the snorkel, the mask is equipped with a stopper ball mechanism that plugs the top of the snorkel when immersed in water. If water happens to get into the mask, or after a dive, simply raise your chin above water and the water will freely flow out of the exit chamber located at the bottom of the mask.

Will My Mask Fog Up?

Fogging

The mask does prevent fogging with the introduction of fresh air, but it cannot negate the science of condensation, especially in waters 18°C or less. The Tribord website (which our sports masks are modelled off) states “The exclusive anti-fogging system through respiratory ventilation performs optimally in water ≥ 18°C.” The greater the temperature difference between the hot air exiting your mouth and the water outside the mask, the greater the likelihood of condensation.

To help with fogging, we recommend to use an anti-fog solution. We personally use baby shampoo. Before each use simply apply 2 drops of shampoo to the inside of the viewing chamber and then rub in gently. Before entering the water quickly submerge the mask in the water to remove any excess, then put the mask on.
